Experient: An AniMated Discussion with Eddie the Eagle
Vimeo Video

Situation

Experient [a division of Maritz Travel] has long been a showcase for cutting-edge meeting and event technology. During a recent event, they were spotlighting how to use Twitter within a meeting. Of course, this couldn’t be done in a normal PowerPoint-present style way.

Solution

Terry, from Experient, and her co-host Eddie the Eagle used Twitter on stage to highlight how to use the technology. Terry communicated some of the confusion and concern that a lot of meeting planners were having at the time, while Eddie (being a bird and thus knowing about Tweeting) came to her aid.

Together, they explained things like hashtags, trends, handles and how to use live Twitter feeds at events. Eddie even demonstrated some of his Tweets, displaying them in a real-time scroll.

Results

Terry and Eddie addressed the topic with humor, charm and a little self-effacement. They were able to demonstrate the technology in a way that made the audience laugh, and overcome some of its initial objections.

CGI: An Oscar-Worthy Opening on an Oscar Meyer Budget
Vimeo Video

Situation

Neighthan the horse was co-hosting his second annual CGI conference. The first year the opening had introduced Neighthan, but for the second year the client wanted to revert to a “bigger” opening. Without budget for a video or other large production we had to come up with a solution that wowed—but utilized the tools at our disposal.

Solution

Neighthan and co-host Josh welcomed the audience back in style with a musical opening number. Since both the actor and the co-host could sing, we decided to utilize their strengths and wrote a parody musical number: “I Got You…Neigh” (instead of Sonny & Cher’s “I Got You Babe”).

The number was both humorous and it highlighted what the attendees could expect from the next few days.

Results

The audience and client got their “big” opening that set the tone of the event. The opening number made it clear that they should expect great things, and that the event was also going to be a lot of fun.

Intel: Best Buy District Managers Training
Vimeo Video

Situation

It’s not easy keeping Best Buy District Managers engaged in product knowledge for 45 minutes straight. Especially if said audience has been rotating through similar workshops all day. Intel wanted a way to communicate key initiatives—and to truly captivate their audience.

Solution

1. Audience-Response Game Show: We divided the audience into teams and gave them each their own audience-response keypad. Using this keypad, they played along and supported their on-stage colleagues.

The game reinforced the content, and the event was structured so that additional information from Intel experts was placed at key moments of peak attention within the game.
2. AniMate: We created an AniMate tasked with emceeing the event and hosting the game. The character, Meltdown, was an avatar on Intel's retail website.

  • Key messages were reinforced multiple times throughout presentation

Minyanville wanted a way to produce multiple, timely video clips (with a short turnaround time) with up-to-the-moment hot-topic commentary on the financial world.

Terex: International Sales Meeting
Vimeo Video

Situation

Terex Cranes was bringing their international sales force together for the first time on a large scale. Since this was a large investment, they wanted the event to give results; people had to be engaged and they had to walk away knowing, believing and doing things that aligned with the company goals.

Solution

Live Spark worked with Terex cranes to consult and design the event from the ground up; blending speakers, company visionaries, activities and workshops.
AniMate: There was an AniMated Crane serving as co-host who tied all the pieces of the event together. He even had several impactful moments (including singing a closing song with one of his co-emcees).
Game: An audience response game ran throughout the event to increase interaction, team competition and review key content.
Presentations: Presentations were designed to be engaging and impactful, and often included the AniMated character. His job was to ask the questions on the minds of the audience, add humor and keep the audiences’ attention.
Interactive Workshops: Workshops were designed as small-group activities with plenty of interaction and application.
Board Breaking: The event culminated in a board-breaking; a highly emotional, evocative event that served as a physical metaphor for the audience breaking through their own barriers.
Consideration was also made for a very-international audience, and activities/dialog took into account cultural barriers and sensitivities.

Results

The event was highly, highly rated by attendees, with the elements of interaction ranking the highest on post-event surveys. The group left with a renewed sense of direction, purpose, and passion.

Intel: Independent Dealer Training
Vimeo Video

Situation

Intel holds independent dealer events to educate them on the latest products, services along with the benefits of buying from Intel. Their challenge was to create an in-person training that conveyed information in a fun, unconventional way.

Solution

Live Spark combed through vintage, copyright-free video archives to find a movie we could use to communicate the Intel message. We wanted to craft a serialized story that would keep the audience interested and engaged, would serve as a “break” in between information-heavy segments.

We ended up finding an old Tarzan movie where we were able to use professional actor/comedians to re-dub the characters with Intel talking points.

Results

A funny, lighthearted and very popular video that managed to balance entertainment and education. The session was well-received and highly rated, and persuaded independent dealers to carry Intel products AND to sign up for a number of promotional programs.

Onyx Pharmaceuticals: Team Building with Meaning
Stacks Image 10592

Situation

A major pharmaceutical company wanted a team building activity that would go far, far beyond bar-side networking, build-a-bike, or scavenger hunt activities. They also wanted to utilize their sales skills: to mimic the rapport-building that they, as reps, had to exhibit on a day-to-day basis with doctors in their field.

Solution

The Persuade Me challenge was a team building event unlike any other. It was an activity that challenged them to quickly establish rapport, uncover information and maintain a positive relationship—all with a stranger.

Teams were given three flip-cameras each and bussed over to Venice Beach, CA, where they had 45 minutes to complete their activity. The task? They had to persuade a complete stranger to share their human interest story. They interviewed said stranger and captured the interview on video; creating a moment of trust to come up with a deep interaction that was engaging, heartfelt and emotional.

They then had to select the most impactful 90 seconds of their interview clip to share with the group. Each team delivered a final presentation including the clip of the interview they had selected. They were judged on creativity, ability to get into rapport and capture the clip, and their explanation of the clip and experience.

Results

Teams produced some amazing, truly moving clips. They were able to quickly get into rapport with strangers on Venice Beach and capture wonderful human moments of humor, sadness, forgiveness, regret, optimism, etc.

The audience said, of the activity:
"Taught me a lesson about judging people...also about collaboration amongst co-workers."
"Liked it...it was different and surprising!"
"Loved the teambuilding!! It was surprising. Really helped us use our skill sets to get people to open up! Key in sales!"
"Team building was fun and collaborative. Infused meaning into my work and added humility to my belief system."
"...an eye-opening experience"
"Loved it!"
"Outside the box!"
"Leveraged our strengths as sales people. Didn't know what to think at first, but it was fun!"
"Loved it! Helped us to focus on rapport--which I think we forget sometimes..."

Disney: Getting Tooned-Up at a Trade Show
Vimeo Video

Situation

Toon Disney was just launching its cable station and wanted to expose the trade show attendees to their channel. With so many attendees and typical trade show distractions, they needed something unique and interactive to stand out from the crowd.

Solution

Disney and Live Spark partnered to offer a draw in the booth: the attendees could become “Tooned Up” (turned into a cartoon character) and walk away with a recording of their experience.

In the booth, there was an area where an attendee could sit down and look at an off-screen monitor. There, the attendees saw themselves AND a real-time computer animated character that was digitally inserted into the video.

The attendee was also wearing a microphone headset that contained a sensor that transmitted the position of their head and relayed movements to a computer. Hidden from the attendees was an actor performing the character’s voice and movements (interacting with the attendee) and a technician who operated the computer controls to change the attendee’s “Tooned Up” appearance; gender, hair color, skin color, etc. based on what the attendee looked like.

Results

The end result was magic—attendees delighted both in the interaction and in becoming a real-life cartoon character themselves.

The attendees received a copy of their interaction with the real-time character and of their own transformation from person-to-toon to take home to their colleagues and families.

Vimeo Video

Situation

Pillsbury wanted to promote a contest on the Internet and drive consumers to their website. They decided to embark on a satellite media tour featuring their world-famous spokes-character, Poppin' Fresh.

Solution

Because he was live, he was able to accommodate banter and requests. He had a number of activities and scripted options that he could use during the interview (of course, hosts had the option to “poke his belly”).

Results

Pillsbury had high contest participation, and the Doughboy was a delightful, easygoing and entertaining morning show guest. Over 30 interviews were conducted coast-to-coast in one morning.

They wanted a video that they could use as both training for distributors and as a promotional piece--so it had to hold the attention of a variety of audiences and in a variety of different environments.

Solution

Live Spark worked with Powervar to distill their message into simple, accurate, compelling terms—laying out the information with clear metaphors and language. We then illustrated the messaging with simple, charming visuals. Live Spark:
  • Wrote the video script
  • Developed and recorded the soundtrack and visuals
  • Did all post-production
